From the North:
95 South into Rhode Island. The highway splits at Exit 9, Rt. 4 South - stay left and go South on Rt. 4. Follow Rt. 4 South for 15 minutes (when it becomes a four lane road instead of highway; you are now on Rt. 1 South) until you see an on-ramp for "138 East, Newport Bridge". Cross the Jamestown bridge, and keep straight. Cross the Newport Bridge ($4.00 toll), then follow the Newport directions.
From the South:
95 North into Rhode Island, take 138 East (Newport Bridge) exit. Drive east for roughly a half hour on a small two lane road through a couple of farms. Stay with Rt. 138 (at one point you are going to turn left into Rt. 1 North and travel two or three miles, still technically on 138 East) no matter how crazy it may seem. Cross over the Jamestown bridge and then the Newport Bridge ($4.00 toll) then follow Newport directions.
Newport Directions:
Take first exit off bridge and go right off exit, go thru one light and straight through the graveyard. Take a right at second light. This is America's Cup Avenue. Follow that through five lights, then take a right on Thames Street (at the sculpture of a wave with feet sticking out of it). Go down Thames about 3/4 mile and take a right turn opposite the Shell Station on Wellington. This is the scenic beginning of "Ocean Drive". Stay on Ocean Drive, hugging the shoreline by always bearing & turning right, until you see the entrance to Fort Adams State Park after about 3 miles. The fields are on your left, past the marina.
